Illustrated Wrappers. Condition: Good. Dick Calkins (illustrator). First Edition. Undated. Illustrated. 32 pages. With great fortune, Chester Horton began his golfing career in 1893 carrying the clubs of the famed Charles Blair Macdonald around the Chicago Golf Club links, the first 18-hole course in America. Horton went on to be a professional player and later, a noted instructor. He was known as a man of science in golf for his many inventions facilitating golf instruction. He eventually had a golf school in Chicago and in Seattle Washington, and manufactured his own line of golf clubs. This copy has been well-studied by the owner, apparently a private pupil of Horton's. LAID IN IS A LETTER DATED 1930 SIGNED BY CHESTER HORTON. In the note Horton apologizes for delay in sending the book, but that he has marked the copy's salient points specifically for the pupil. Lessons One, Two and Six have been heavily annotated in pen by the author, Chester Horton, as being the areas of the student's game that need attention. Unique copy. Covers crease but complete and have been laminated, slight indentations and stains upper inside cover from paperclips once attaching the autographed letter to the book. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. SIGNED LETTER LAID IN.
