The aforementioned pencil inscription G.H. Young should be that of Colonel George Hampton Young (1799-1880) who was among the wealthiest of planters in north Mississippi and started construction in 1838 of Waverley Plantation (completed circa 1852) located midway between West Point and Columbus. The Hollis Banks connection is uncertain but Colonel Young's last child Lucy Watkins Young (1841-1933) married James Oliver Banks Sr. in 1870.
