It is bounded by the parishes of Inveresk and Ormiston on the east, by Crichton and Borthwick on the south; and by Newbattle on the west and north. The River Tyne flows through the centre of the parish. It includes the villages of Edgehead, Pathhead and Ford, and the mansions of Oxenfoord Castle and Preston Hall. This history of the Parish is divided into the following chapters: Physical, Political, Personal, Historical, Ecclesiastical (two chapters), Educational, Architectural, industrial, and Social. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling and staining to the boards, including faint water staining on the rear board. The spine ends are bumped. The contents are tight and clean apart from a few small marks and some scattered light foxing. The half-title, title page, last few pages and the free endpapers are a bit more heavily foxed. There is no inscription.
