Soft cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. In good condition. Covers are lightly rubbed, with minor scuffing. Glue from binding has become oxidized and brittle. Front page that Dituri has inscribed is beginning to become detached, but it remains intact. "For George Rey, Affectionately in haiku spirit Soichi Furuta, May 10, 1983" Free of marginalia otherwise. Pages bright and clean. Please see photos. "Soichi Furuta was a Renaissance man. He was equally at home discussing Plato, Bach and the folk singer Melanie as he was with his beloved subject of fascination and research, Piero della Francesca. An artist and poet, he also worked as a graphic design executive, art consultant, translator, professor and parent. What set him apart as a poet was his ability to write and translate into and out of two languages, English and Japanese. The British novelist, Shirley Hazzard, once said of Furuta, 'It is always astonishing that a writer can work in two languages but how much more so when one discovers a poet at work in two contrasting tongues.'". Inscribed by Author(s).

He is a photographer who likes to transform the obvious into images that border on uncertainty and mystery. He was on the faculty at Long Island University, C.W. Post and is currently in the art department at Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. His work is continuously exhibited worldwide in many fine art museums and galleries. In the 1960?s Dituri started taking pictures in the streets of New York. By the 80?s he began seeing human figures as visual ?bookmarks? formally defining his vision. Often buried childhood experiences began resurfacing in many of his images. Plus his work became increasingly concerned with spirituality and nature. The images in this collection are a mixture of religion and eroticism.* This is a NEAR FINE copy of the 1st. thus with a few slight marks to covers and end papers reducing it to VG+* 1999-01-01. n.
