Selten. ----- Doerr: Adolph D. wurde am 26. Juli 1816 zu Darmstadt geboren, wo sein Vater als Geheimsecretär angestellt war. Seinen Jugendunterricht erhielt er in der vortrefflichen Anstalt von Schmitz, Ritsert und Sell, von wo aus er im J. 1829 in das dortige Gymnasium eintrat und 1833 als Philolog das Abiturientenexamen machte, jedoch die Universität Gießen bezog um dem Studium der Jurisprudenz sich zu widmen. Im J. 1838 wurde er Accessist am Secretariat des großherzoglichen Hofgerichts zu Darmstadt, trat aber 1844 in den Thurn- und Taxis'schen Postdienst über. Sein poetisches Talent hatte er nun Muße auszubilden, was nicht ohne Frucht für ihn war, indem König Ludwig von Baiern aufmerksam auf ihn wurde und ihm die Mittel für einen längeren Aufenthalt in Italien gewährte. Auch die Großherzogin Mathilde von Hessen unterstützte ihn. 1862 hatte sich ein schweres Rückenmarkleiden bei ihm eingestellt, was ihn nöthigte, sein Amt aufzugeben, und welchem er auch nach mehrjährigem Siechthum am 27. Januar 1868 zu Heppenheim an der Bergstraße erlag. Neben seinen eigenen Dichtungen beschäftigte ihn auch eine Uebersetzung von Dante's "Divina Commedia", welche jedoch nicht vollendet wurde. Erschienen sind davon nur die ersten siebenzehn Gesänge der Hölle (1867). In verschiedene Zeitschriften, Europa, Pilot, Telegraph etc. lieferte er Aufsätze belletristischen Inhalts, dann aber sind "Titan und Eros, Dichtungen", 1848; "Ismelda Lambertazzi", Romanze in 3 Gesängen, 1850; "Louise", Gedicht in 3 Gesängen, 1851; "Album aus Italien", 1857 von ihm erschienen.
