Silver prints (53). Condition: Fine. Two compelling photographic portfolios, both completed in California in the late 1980s. One, titled " .Under the Immense Blue Sky of the American West." examines the landscapes, highways, and overviews of the San Francisco Bay Area with a deadpan aesthetic reminiscent of the New Topographics movement. The other, "Pacific Palms Deluxe", documents Los Angeles beach-life centered around the titular apartment complex. The works in this portfolio are more playful, humanistic, recalling the work of Bill Owens or Henry Wessel. Both were completed by Donatella Brun, an Italian photographer who was studying at the San Francisco Art Institute at the time. She is best known for her photographic work pertaining to the pioneering Italian designer Gaetano Pesce. Both are from an edition of four. ".Under the Immense Blue Sky.", dated 1988, lacks plate number 24 of its 25 plates, and "Pacific Palms Deluxe", dated 1989 lacks 7 of its 35 plates. However, we can trace no copy of either of these portfolios elsewhere. Each approximately 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; sheets 11 x 14 inches ; Each signed and numbered verso; housed in custom clamshell boxes.
