Black cloth with bright gilt lettering on spine; bevel fore-edge; offsetting down hinges. White, black and red dustwrapper not price-clipped ($1.25) with tittle lettering in red and black letters over white background on top and middle front cover, author name lettering in white over black band across bottom front cover; White portions of covers toned, all lettering still sharp and distinct; spine slightly darkened, all lettering still sharp and distinct; light wear across top spine (surface red removed, revealing white paper beneath); slight wear across bottom spine and at corners (Now all portions backed with Archival tape; 2" x 3/4" sticker on front cover was removed, taking away the letter 'Y' of 'Democracy' in title at middle front cover: Now in Brodart mylar which forgives these peccadilloes mightily. Dustwrapper did its job: book looks Fine, NO impact on cloth at corresponding locations beneath peccadilloes of dustwrapper. Previous owner signature, that of Jay H. Cerf, distinguished author and scholar, aide to Congressmen, on the slant at middle ffep. Tight spine (NO cracks); NO rubbing wear; sharp corners (NO bumps or curls). Clean text. The way to read a Political and Philosophical Classic more than 70 years old.
