A remarkable series of B/W photographs selected from images made by Doris Ulmann in the South of the USA from 1925 to 1934, some of which were published in "Roll, Jordan, Roll" in 1933. The images in this volume were made from many of the gravure reproductions published in the limited, deluxe edition of that earlier work. Sociologist Robert Coles contributes an original extended essay "A New Heaven and a New Earth"(31 pp.) on the residents of the regions in which Ulmann photographed, commenting on the characteristics of their attitudes and opinions, with numerous quotations from his recorded interviews. 112 pp. Weight: 550 g.
