42pp, stitched, light wear and spotting, Good+. Ducachet speaks on the resignation of Bishop Philander Chase as Bishop of the Diocese of Ohio and the Presidency of Kenyon College, and "his removal from that State to the Territory of Michigan." Chase had been the focus of resentful stirrings among his Ohio colleagues for the alleged high-handed exercise of his authority and mismanagement of Kenyon College. The Convention sought to effectuate a reconciliation. Ducachet, however, says that "Matters have gone too far to furnish the least hope that there can ever be restored that harmony which ought to exist between a Bishop and his Diocese." Chase, Ducachet demonstrates with citation of learned ecclesiastical precedent, has lawfully resigned his Office. The Diocese of Ohio has picked his successor, Dr McIlvaine. "I do not see that we are authorised by the canons, under these circumstances, to devise means to restore Bishop Chase." FIRST EDITION Haynes 5260 AI 18615 [5].
