Die Kantonsbibliothek Freiburg war ihrerseits durch den früheren kantonalen Vizekanzler und danach Privatgelehrten Alfred Weitzel (1842-1929) in den Besitz von einigen Dokumenten-Kopien betreffend den konkreten biographischen Hintergrund des 'pauvre Jacques' de Fribourg, mit bürgerlichem Namen Jacques Bosson (dt. Jacob Boschung), gelangt. - Die romantische Geschichte um ein Liebespaar aus dem Freiburgischen in Diensten von Königin Marie-Antoinette, Gattin von Ludwig/Louis XVI, als Angestellte auf deren Bauernhof Montreuil in Versailles, wurde seit der Erstveröffentlichung 1789 (wohl als Vaudeville-Theater) in verschiedensten Formen adaptiert und erlebte eine anhaltende Popularität: "Etonnante destinée que celle des Gruériens Jacques Bosson et Marie-Françoise Magnin! La romance du Pauvre Jacques entretient leur souvenir depuis plus de deux siècles. Après bien des péripéties, les deux amoureux passèrent la seconde partie de leur vie dans le quartier bullois de La Léchère, à l'endroit où une maison vient d'être démolie, près du Collège du Sud."
