Light blue cover has bevelled edges, with black / gilt decorations and lettering. Boards slightly worn at edges and corners, a little minor marking to cover leading edge with very faint darkening to both boards, but overall covers and spine clean and reasonably bright. Inside hinges in front and rear endpapers a little pulled but covers tight. Contents clean and tight. Overall a VG clean and sound copy. . A very heavy book weighing c2800g when wrapped, thus exceeding the default postage quote weight of 1000g and invoking a request for the extra postage at cost at time of order whether to be sent overseas or within the UK.

Libby Tufts 11" along with rubber-stamped date May 13 1911. Half-title. Tissue guarded title page also includes light pencilled annotation. Opposite title page is intact fold out B/W art work, illustrator Bonomi, illustration is said within text to have derived from an Egyptian Tomb in Nubia from the reign of Ramses II. Text block is clean square and intact, pages flow freely, some gapping appears at signatures. George John Douglas Campbell, was the 8th Duke of Argyll. Jospeh Bonomi the younger was a well known artist, sculptor, and egyptologist whose work accompanied many of the scholarly/exploratory British expeditions in the Arab world during the first half of the 19th century.

George John Douglas Campbell, 8th and 1st Duke of Argyll 1823 - 1900; was a British polymath and Liberal statesman. He made a significant geological discovery in the 1850s when his tenant found fossilized leaves embedded among basalt lava on the Island of Mull. He also helped to popularize ornithology and was one of the first to give a detailed account of the principles of bird flight in the hopes of advancing artificial aerial navigation (i.e. flying machines). His literary output was extensive writing on topics varying from science and theology to economy and politics. In addition to this, he served prominently in the administrations of Lord Aberdeen, Lord Palmerston, John Russell and William Gladstone. Size is 180mm x 115mm. Condition is good. John George Edward Henry Douglas Sutherland Campbell, 9th and 2nd Duke of Argyll, 1845-1914, usually better known by the courtesy title Marquess of Lorne, by which he was known between 1847 and 1900, was a British nobleman who was Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883. he was the husband of Princess Louise, fourth daughter of Queen Victoria. He was the first president of "The Rangers Football Club", thanks to his Argyll ties to the original founders of the football club. Size is 175mm x 115mm. Condition is good. Light folding creases.
