Hardcover. Condition: Good. First American Edition. First American edition of Dumourier's 1794 memoir, rebound in the late 19th century (1872 or 1873). This book has two volumes bound together followed by publisher Samuel Smith's 4-page Monthly Review prospectus, and a 13-page essay, "Historical Details of the 10th of August 1792 and of the Monument Erected at Lucerne to the Memory of the Swiss Guards Who Fell on that Day" - Lucerne, 1872. Charles-François du Périer Dumourier (1739-1823) was a general during the French Revolution, but later deserted the Revolutionary Army and became a royalist intriguer during the reign of Napoleon. Following his defection in 1793, Dumourier learned he had become an object of suspicion among his countrymen, the royal houses, aristocracies, and clergy of Europe. In response, he wrote and published a memoir in his defense. Translated by John Fenwick. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 260 pp.
