Incisione originale su matrice di rame eseguita all`acquatinta, impressa in inchiostro color seppia. Sotto la linea marginale inferiore, a sinistra e a destra, indicazioni degli autori; più in basso titolo in italiano e francese ed indicazione dello stampatore. La tavola è tratta da una serie di dodici vedute di Torino, piazze e… vie della capitale sabauda con un taglio nitido, che esalta le geometrie squadrate degli edifici attraverso i morbidi effetti chiaroscurali permessi dalla tecnica incisoria all`acquatinta. La stessa raccolta fu reimpressa, assieme ad altre dodici vedute, nel 1824 ( Peyrot nedeg; 315 ) Il disegno dell` immagine in esame spetta al disegnatore e pittore francese Duquesnay, la trasposizionesu lastra è opera di Castelli. Veduta prospettica di piazzaCarlo Emanuele II, detta piazza Carlina. Sullo sfondo a sinistra si vede il palazzo del marchese Ferrero d ` Ormea , costruito nel XVIII secolo, su disegno del conte Guarene e con facciata di Filippo Juvarra, sulla destra l` edificio dell` Albergo delle Virtù aperto da alcuni soci della Compagnia di San Paolo, riconosciuto legalmente da Carlo Emanuele I nel 1857 aveva lo scopo di insegnare ai giovani un mestiere. Sempre a destra la cupola della chiesa di S. Croce, costruita su disegno dello Juvarra con il campanile dell` architetto Gian Battista Borra. Questa piazza, sulla quale si svolgeva il mercato del vino, fu costruita al tempo del secondo ampliamento della città verso la Porta di Po decretato nel 1675 dal duca Carlo Emanuele II. Al tempo del governo francese vi giustiziarono i condannati a morte mediante la ghigliottina. Esemplare in buone condizioni conservative.
