This is a copy of a nonfiction historical military biography book of Adolf Hitler's leaders called Hitler's 12 Apostles, copyright 1940, first edition, hard cover, no dust jacket, written by Oswald Dutch. The book has usual library markings, library bound hard cover, bumped and frayed corners, pages yellowed due to aging, one black and white photograph missing, otherwise in good condition with tight binding, nice black and white photographs and 249 pages. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

FIRST EDITION, 12 monochrome plates, a couple of faint spots to prelims, pp. 271, 8vo, original red cloth, backstrip lettered in black, slight lean to spine, a little rubbed at extremities, top edge black now faded, free endpapers faintly browned and spotted, dustjacket, a little darkened to backstrip panel, slightly chipped and nicked to extremities, closed tear at head of rear panel, very good. A scarce book, published two months into the war (the title-page verso specifies the month of publication, November); the author's Preface, dated to October, clarifies that the book was conceived (and presumably mostly written) 'when there was as yet no war' - the timeline in its 'Chronological Summary' at the rear runs from March 1918, to war's declaration at the beginning of September 1939. Dutch's account provides portraits of those closest to the Führer, assessing their function and standing - including from the point of view of the succession, in case Hitler should fall. Dutch was an Austrian journalist, who had fled his homeland - to London, via Switzerland - following the Anschluss.
