Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition, Limited Edition. This 1978 exhibition catalog, compiled and introduced by noted curator and glass historian Dwight P. Lanmon, presents a richly documented survey of the Wadsworth Atheneum's holdings in historic glass, spanning nearly six centuries of production. The volume features…154 pages of catalog entries, scholarly notes, and extensive photographic plates, most in black-and-white, illustrating Islamic, European, and American examples. Each object entry includes provenance, period, attribution, materials, and comparative references, making the catalog a practical reference for scholars and collectors. The softcover volume remains structurally sound, with clean, unmarked interior pages and strong binding. The cover shows expected age toning and scattered foxing, particularly on the front and rear panels, but no tears or writing. The glossy photographic plates are bright and well-reproduced, and the catalog?s organization, including introduction, object descriptions, bibliography, remains an excellent snapshot of late-20th-century American museum scholarship on glass. This printing does not state edition or impression, consistent with the Atheneum's standard exhibition-catalog practice of the period. The colophon lists Copyright © 1978, Wadsworth Atheneum; Library of Congress Catalogue Card Number 78-62279. The unpriced cover is typical of institutional catalogs published for limited distribution. Dwight P. Lanmon is an influential curator, scholar, and museum director known for his extensive work in the study of American and European glass. Formerly director of the Corning Museum of Glass and later head of the Winterthur Museum, Lanmon has authored major reference works that remain foundational in the field. His involvement ensures this catalog's scholarly reliability and enduring usefulness.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Illustrated. Minor shelf wear. Else a bright, clean copy. The small village of Santa Ana Pueblo in north-central New Mexico has for centuries made distinctive pottery for domestic and ritual use. In this book, the authors relate new ideas about the evolution of p…ottery styles made at Santa Ana and compare these styles with those found elsewhere in the Pueblo ceramic tradition. In particular, this richly visual study describes the chronological sequence of forms and designs based on evidence not heretofore available. The book analyzes the sequence from the earliest date, circa 1760, when positive evidence of Santa Ana origin can be identified, through the end of pottery making for local use about 1925 through various revivals to the present time. The pottery of Santa Ana Pueblo exemplifies the fine artistic achievement that has brought Pueblo ceramics worldwide acclaim.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Fine in a fine dust wrapper. In 1976, the Corning Museum of Glass devoted it's entire issue of it's Journal of Glass Studies to the topic of John Frederick Amelung, an honor never awarded to any other glass-maker. This volume is an updated version of that Jour…nal issue and it examines Amelung's glass-making venture from four distinct vantage points. The authors provide a history of the factory and it's lasting influence on American glass-making, an analytical survey of the documented products, a report on the archaeological investigation of one of the factory buildings, and a summary of chemical analyses of the fragments and documented glasses.
