OCLC 16783255 [cites 13 locations] Gaston Eugene Marie Bonnier (1853 in Paris - 1922) was a French botanist and plant ecologist. He was a member of the Linnaean Society of London and is credited with extensive taxonomical work with many plants referenced by their Bonnier assigned name. Bonnier became professor of botany at the Sorbonne in 1887, and he founded the Laboratoire de Biologic Vegetale at Fontainebleu in 1889. The same year, he co-founded the scientific journal Revue Generale de Botanique, which he edited until 1922. He was an early exponent of experimental plant ecology. Gaston Bonnier was one of the botanists responsible for the transformation of botany from a descriptive science to an experimental one in the late 19th century. . (1902).
