Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the phenomena of the Mississippi River, particularly its transportation of solid matter to the sea. The author focuses on the formation of the river's delta, proposing a solution to the problem of the constantly forming sand bars at the river's mouthâ"a problem that has long plagued engineers. The text examines the river's physical composition, its flow, and the dynamics of the evolving delta, providing a comprehensive understanding of the river's behavior. The book delves into the theories and practices of river engineering, critiquing prevailing ideas and offering innovative solutions. It underscores the importance of balancing the forces that control the river's speed and sediment transport capacity to achieve the desired navigability and prevent the formation of obstructive sandbars. Through rigorous analysis and practical insights, this book illuminates the complexities of riverine systems and offers valuable guidance for future river management strategies. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
