      Hardcover. Condition: Good. The early Anglo-Saxon cemetery at Blacknall Field, Pewsey, consists of more than 100 graves, all of them inhumations apart from four cremations. Interments included men, women, children and infants. The presence of infant graves from this period is exceptional. The majority of the adults and juveniles and some of the children were accompanied by grave goods. Some of these, such as the swords and the gilded brooches with Germanic animal ornament, indicate the high status of the deceased. The sword fittings and intricately worked designs of the brooches, together with beads and buckles, allow them to be closely dated. A significant number of graves can be dated to between AD c.475 to c.550, th.
