Except for those made after 1970, most of the bows showcased were examined and classified during Retford's retirement, underscoring their authenticity and importance. Predominantly featured are Hill bows from before Retford's tenure until 1960, alongside works by notable contemporaries like James Tubbs and Samuel Allen. The exhibition also highlights bows created by craftsmen outside the Hill School, who met Retford later in life.
