Dort entstanden zahlreiche Instrumente von Johann von Lamont, Wilhelm von Beetz, Hermann von Helmholtz, Hermann Ebert und ihm selbst. Er verfaßte Berichte für die "Annalen der Physik und Chemie". Von Edelmann stammen u.a. die ersten Konstruktionen eines Bolometers, die Innenpoldynamomaschine, das erste Instrument zur direkten Ablesung von Stromstärken, das Hänge-Fernrohr, das Zylinder-Quadranten-Elektrometer und Skalenfernrohre.
