Autoren und Produzenten orientieren sich an erprobten Mustern des Erzählens. Wie sehen diese Muster im Einzelnen aus? Wie wirken sie, warum funktionieren sie? Dieses Buch beschreibt den typischen Handlungsaufbau des populären Films, untersucht, warum er so erfolgreich ist, und klärt die traditionellen Begriffe der klassischen Dramaturgie. Zu diesem Zweck werden die Erkenntnisse von Drehbuchpraxis und Filmtheorie miteinander verbunden: Aus der vergleichenden Analyse von zwölf klassischen Drehbuchratgebern (u. a. Egri, Field, Seger, Vale, Vogler) läßt sich ein umfassendes Bild der populären Dramaturgie ermitteln.
