Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Edited by Noel M. Sedgwick, Peter Whitaker and Jeffery Harrison. Foreword by H.R.H. The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, K.G., K.T. Introduction by the Rt. Hon. the Earl of Mansfield. Preface by Peter Scott, C.B.E. 350 pages, colour and b/w illustrations by Peter Scott including frontispiece plate, colour and b/w photos. Original dust jacket very good, with a little toning to edges. Hard-back binding, very good. Contents clean and tight, no inscriptions. A very good copy. From the front flap of the jacket: "The New Wildfowler on the 1970's preserves all the valuable features of the earlier volume, though all has been carefully revised and brought fully up-to-date, and presents a great deal of entirely new material and a fresh set of splendid illustrations. It is the work of some thirty experts, writing under the auspices of the Wildfowlers' Assoiation of Great Britain and Ireland (WAGBI) and provides a wealth of information and practical advice which cannot fail to improve the skill and increase the enjoyment of every keen sportsman. But the book is also one that belongs as much on the shelf of the naturalist as on that of the shooter; its important chapters concerned with wildfowl conservation, observation and habitat are of the deepest interest. These show the great progress that has been made in recent years, the result of successful co-operation between the sportsman and naturalist. With 63 photographs, nine colour plates, many maps, diagrams and tables." Size: 8vo. Book.

Wilson was Chief of the Imperial General Staff, February 1918 to February 1922, and the correspondence selected for this Army Records Society volume reflects all the principal military concerns of the period. During the last nine months of the First World War, the great German spring offensive, the Allied successes in the late summer and autumn, and the final victory in November dominate the letters. Post-war problems of demobilisation and army re-building were followed by the difficulties of meeting wide-ranging military commitments throughout the world. At home, fears of domestic revolution necessitated that the army prepare for operations in aid of the civil war. Abroad military action had to be co-ordinated with the French in order to enforce the peace treaty with Germany and to support Allied policy in Eastern Europe. Further demands were made on the army by calls to repress nationalist unrest in Ireland, Egypt, India and Mesopotamia (Iraq), together with communal violence in Palestine. ***All these topics are covered in the correspondence, which in particular demonstrates Wilson's growing disillusionment with the government's Irish policy. Wilson was himself an Irishman with strong Unionist sympathies which materially contributed to his assassination by Irish nationalists just a few months after retiring with the War Office. ***With the inclusion of a substantial number of 'in' letters from a wide range of correspondents, the selection also provides a 'cross-section' of British military and strategic opinion during the years in question. Among the correspondents are leading politicians - Lloyd George, Churchill, Curzon Milner - and senior British soldiers, notably Haig, Rawlinson, Allenby, Robertson and Harrington.' [Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb]. ***First impression of the true first edition in its original dustwrapper in very nice fine bright unfaded condition. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
