Ginn & Company's Athenæum Press editions were staples of late 19th-early 20th century classical education, valued today for their durable bindings and historical role in literary instruction. Alexander Pope (1688-1744) was one of England's foremost poets of the Augustan age, best known for his heroic couplets and translations of classical works. His rendering of Homer's Iliad (1715-1720) became one of the most influential English versions, shaping how generations of readers encountered Greek epic poetry.
