Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. NYC: Knopf, 1992. 1st edition, F/F. Book and dust jacket have very little wear. Three appendices and an index. "The heart of the book lies in the descriptions of his relationships - rivalries, feuds, friendships and mentorships - with many of the most significant writers of the 20th century. Revealing anecdotes and biting observations spiked with an outrageous and pugnacious wit and alarming frankness. Our great social commentator." Nice copy, always fun to read.

Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 135 pages + 8 pages of advertisements at the end of the book. It is possible that two or four early pages of advertisements may be missing, depending on whether the slightly strengthened covers are included in the page-numbering. A book to celebrate WG's one hundredth hundred, the first batsman to do so. After the front cover, there follows two pages of advertising; a dedication page backed by advertising; the title and copyright page, backed by advertising; Preface by WG, backed by advertising; Contents, backed by advertising; then the beginning of the book proper on page 11. The text ends on page 135, and then the rear advertising supplement. The text pages are by and large clean and tidy; the front and rear covers are discoloured or soiled with some edge wear; the binding though is fragile as can be seen on one of the accompanying images; the staples are rusting, doubtless leading to damage to the paper; a previous owner name at top of dedication page; the weakness in binding is similar at rear of book. A little better than a mere reading copy.
