Mr. Schultz was a 19th century scientist, financeer & world traveller from Montclair, N. J. He was one of the founders of the Society and served in many positions. A few of his papers relating to his term as president of the Society are included. He apparently read each journal from cover-to-cover and made notations in pencil as he saw fit. The journal contained articles on various aspects of microscopy, including techniques, methods, and discoveries. It featured prominent figures such as Simon Henry Gage and George F. Atkinson.
