Limited to 1000 copies, of which 999 are for sale, this is #497 and is signed by both editor Red Smith as well as artist Willard Mullin on limitation page. They have not dedicated the book to anyone in particular, just their first/last names. Soft, brown, full leather binding smells and feels heavenly and has bright gilt spine title and light wear at spine ends and lower tips. Board tips and spine ends are sharp, edge of page block clean, top edge gilt. Solid rust colored endpapers. Former owner's gift ded to her husband is on the lower fore edge of the half title page. 270pp text like new, crisp and unmarked. Presented in its original slipcase with illustration from the regular first edition dust jacket of horses breaking from the gate on one side. Rust paper covered cardboard case shows very light handling soil, has some splits in the paper, and loss on the corners but is holding fine and displays well. Here are the best of the graceful, witty, wonderful pieces by Joe H. Palmer, who was, until his death October 31, 1952, America's best known racing writer, and in the opinion of many the best writer of sports anywhere. Signed by Artist & Editor.
