Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Written entirely in Welsh. Loosely translated into English: "Selected Psalms: The Translation of the Arch-Deacon Prys with Text in Front of Each Showing Years Ago Its Substance and Its Contents" with the scripture from James v. 13, "Is there anyone among you in adversity? A prayer…is anyone comfortable with it? Psalms were born." Printed by John Broster, Bangor, 1815. This is a Welsh-language collection of selected Psalms ("Psalmau Dewisedig"). It features Prys?s well-known metrical translation (originally published as Llyfr y Psalmau or Salmau Cân in 1621), along with summaries or arguments before each Psalm and some prayers from the Book of Common Prayer.ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Edmwnd Prys was a Welsh clergyman, poet, and Archdeacon of Merioneth (also known as Merionethshire, a historic county in north-west Wales). His metrical Psalms were highly regarded for their poetic quality and suitability for singing, becoming a standard in Welsh worship for generations.Bound in a plain light blue cardboard with a light brown cloth binding, this book is very small, measuring 6.75" tall x 4" wide, and less than .25" thick. v, 40 pp. CONDITION: Moderate external wear, the word "Musicians" is written on the front cover and a previous owner's name on the back cover, both written in dipped ink from the period. A more modern, vintage name is written on the front flyleaf and stamped underneath with "19 College Road. Bangor. N. Wales." Inner hinges have cracked, yet the binding is quite sound and all leaves are well inbound and present. Foxed throughout, yet text is bold and highly legible. An intriguing little copy of this first edition. Full refund if not satisfied.
