Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. In the smoky pubs of London, a quiet man once stepped onto a tiny stage with a borrowed guitar. His fingers moved in a way no one had quite heard before-gentle yet commanding, weaving stories from steel strings instead of shouted words. That man was Mark Knopfler, and from that moment, his j…ourney would change the sound of rock forever. This book takes you inside the life of a musician who never sought the spotlight yet became one of the most influential guitarists and storytellers of our time. From his modest childhood in Newcastle to the nights when Dire Straits struggled to be heard above the noise, Knopfler's story is one of resilience, artistry, and quiet rebellion against the cliches of rock stardom. You will walk alongside him as "Sultans of Swing" transforms from a pub tune into a worldwide anthem, as relentless tours test the limits of fame, and as his unmistakable fingerpicking style carves a place in music history. Beyond the stage, you'll discover the private man-devoted father, lover of literature and history, and a philanthropist who gave back quietly, away from the cameras. Mark Knopfler's life is not a tale of excess but of authenticity. It is the story of how one man, guided by passion and humility, left an indelible mark on rock, pop, and culture itself-proving that sometimes the softest voice leaves the loudest echo. Add to basketMass Market Paperback. Condition: Good. First Edition. Oddly this has the cover of Lariat Story Magazine from July 1938 and not the correct cover. This appears to have been how it was produced - odd as the magazines had different publishers. Contains 'Bitter Creek Buckaroo' by Bond, 'Empty Saddles' by Grinstead, 'Outlaws of the…Chaparral' by Ware, 'Ham Swings a Wide Loop' by Garry, 'Boothill Dare' by Steele, 'Side Meat' by MacDowell, 'Law in his Holster' by Bosworth and 'The Hitching Rail' by Benson. All the stories have illustrations but they are uncredited - three have the signatures Murphy, Sherman and Schomburg however. There is chipping to the edges of the covers. The pages are browned with some spotting in places and some small edge tears and creases to a few pages. Postage charge will be reduced by £1.50 when the order is processed. Murphy; Sherman; Schomburg (illustrator).
