The collection, considered one of the best in the field of Western Americana, was given to Yale University. The author was a prominent historian and bookseller who helped Mr. Coe assemble the collection. An interesting sidelight is that Mr. Coe had purchased Buffalo Bill Cody's ranch in Wyoming in 1910 and that is said to have been the genesis of the collection.
