Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book encapsulates the debate that followed the introduction of the national education system in Ireland in the 19th century. A highly contentious issue at the time, the author provides the transcript of the House of Lords debate on petitions against the system in 1833. The author…was the Archbishop of Dublin and a member of the new Board of Education. He argues in favor of the system, which at the time had been accused of shortcomings including proselytism, and misappropriation of funds. The book delves into the religious and political context of the debate, setting out the arguments for and against a national education system for Ireland. It is a relevant text for those interested in Irish history, religious history, and the development of education systems. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
