Add to basketLoose as Issued. Condition: Very Good. Unique. ORIGINAL architects drawing on vellum of the "seat" of Sir George Chetwynd done in 1841. Measures 26 x 24 inches approximately. There are two magnificent pencil vignettes one depicting the house itself (now Demolished), the other surrounds the ornate lettering details both situated top left and right of the plan. there are coloured areas and outlines, woodlands done in graphite and some ink? There is a beautiful compass, a distance scale done as a ruler and an "explanation or estate land details" box lower centre with inked ornate borders. the scale is 5 inches to the mile. The area shown is from the village of Wharton in the North to Grendon Wood in the South. Polesworth in the West and Alder Mill and Pinwall Hall in the east. The plan was folded down so fold lines are noticeable, however no splits have occurred and will flatten if needed to for framing. Other than some light handling marks at edges with several pin holes in borders and a little dustiness the plan is in excellent condition. *All we know of the architect is he was a Land Surveyor. British biographical history online states: Charles Heaton, recorded as a surveyor in 1804, lived at Endon by 1815. He died there in 1859. Two of his sons also practiced as land surveyors: Thomas (d. 1875), who probably worked with his father, lived in Endon in 1856 but had moved to Alton by 1860; Edwin, based in Leek in 1850 and in Cheddleton in 1860, moved between 1872 and 1876 to Hallwater House in Endon. After Edwin's death in 1896. the 2nd Baronet Sir George Chetwynd had both Grendon Hall near Atherstone and Brocton Hall near Stafford and had this commissioned, he died in 1850, the Hall was demolished in 1933. It is believed the whole pile was shipped to America and each brick numbered and workmen were stopped from actually demolishing every trace? UNIQUE item. Signed by Author(s).
