This folio contains sketches of the Polish army, navy and airforce from 1940 to 1943 and covers the various branches of each force. This c…opy one of 100 numbered copies, signed by the artist title page verso, and numbered 50. Brief text by Edwin Muir, 128 pages, approx 120 b/w sketches, most full page. Green hard covers with gilt front/spine titles VG with few light, unobtrusive marks, slight wear top front corner, light foxing few early/late pages but not extending to pictorial area, which is excellent. No inscriptions apart from Zwy's signature. Signed copies scarce. Aleksander Zyw (illustrator). By Artist.

Striking work by Czech photographer Jan Lukas, profusely illustrated with reproductions in photogravure of landscapes and everyday life in the Czechoslovakian countr…yside. Along with Tmej and Koudelka he is one of the most important Czech photographers of the 20th century. Lukas created powerful images during W.W.II, the liberation in 1945, and the Communist takeover in Czechoslovakia in 1948. This work conveys a more peaceful, serene atmosphere. Introduction by Jan Drda and Edwin Muir. Age wear, creasing, soiling and few closed tears on dj. Head of spine and top corner on back of dj chipped. Handwritten name & place by previous owner on page following free front endpaper. Text in Czech. Dust jacket in good-, book in very good to near fine condition.
