Pages are lightly tanned and have a some spots of handling soil. The illustrations by the author are still beautiful and bright. From the Introduction: "The illustrations are from water-color painting by Edwin W. Deming, who in his boyhood determined that his life objective should be to record in pictures the old-time life and customs of the American Indians.
