Als Mesomerie wird in der Chemie das Phänomen bezeichnet, dass die Bindu…ngsverhältnisse in manchen Molekülen oder mehratomigen Ionen nicht durch eine einzige Strukturformel, sondern nur durch mehrere Grenzformeln dargestellt werden können. Die Tautomerie bezeichnet in der Chemie eine besondere Form der Isomerie. Sie wurde 1876 von Alexander Michailowitsch Butlerow entdeckt und 1885 von Conrad Peter Laar als Begriff eingeführt. Bernd Karl Georg Eistert (1902 1978) war ein deutscher Chemiker. Eistert wurde durch die im Jahre 1927 zusammen mit Fritz Arndt entwickelte Kettenverlängerungsreaktion der Carbonsäuren bekannt. Diese Synthesereaktion wird daher auch Arndt-Eistert-Homologisierung genannt, siehe auch: Namensreaktion. Mit weiteren grundlegenden Arbeiten zur Tautomerie und Mesomerie trug er maßgeblich zum Verständnis theoretischer Probleme der organischen Chemie bei.
