The Preface indicates the writings were originally published in the "Buffalo Sunday Courier", the "Buffalo Commercial, the "Society of Natural Sciences," and "Humane Journal" of Chicago. There are 253 pages including a section titled "Ornithological Nomenclature." A few pages have additions/corrections in ink, and the first 12 pages have bent lower corners. There is some discoloration and soiling to the front board especially at the upper right corner, all corners are bumped and there is some loss of color to the spine ends. The majority of the text pages are clean and without marginalia. There are no rips or tears to the paper.
