Esta segunda edición consta de multitud de fotografías que muestran los…lagos, las montañas y las poblaciones andinas patagónicas. Son 188 páginas sobre unas dimensiones de 16 x 11 cm. Pionera entre las cronistas viajeras y mujeres periodistas, Elflein nació el 22 de febrero de 1880. En esta nota, la escritora Cynthia Cordi y la investigadora María Vicens relatan algunos aspectos centrales de su vida y su obra. Nos hemos internado en sombrías veredas entre bosques, cruzado ríos indómitos de caudal verde profundo, y las sombras de la prima noche nos han alcanzado antes de salir de la montaña. Y éramos tres mujeres, indefensas al decir de las gentes, pero defendidas por la cultura argentina que en los más remotos rincones de nuestro territorio muéstrase ante propios y extraños . Fragmento de Paisajes Cordilleranos (1917). El 22 de febrero de 1880 nació, en Buenos Aires, Ada María Elflein, la primera mujer en integrar la Academia Nacional de Periodismo. Educadora, narradora de leyendas nacionales y cronista de viajes, abrió el camino a muchas mujeres en una profesión hasta ese momento masculinizada. Egresó como bachiller en el actual Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires (CNBA). Sus padres eran inmigrantes alemanes que la alentaban a estudiar y escribir. Fue precisamente su madre, Elena Schwarz de Elflein, quien aprovechó sus contactos como institutriz de familias ricas porteñas para presentar los relatos de su hija en el diario La Prensa de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. En esa época, La Prensa era un medio importante y moderno. En 1905, la llamaron para presentar sus títulos y, entre ellos, acercó un certificado de traductora escrito de puño y letra por Bartolomé Mitre, para quien había hecho traducciones del alemán. Creo que para ella fue como tocar el cielo con las manos , dice Cynthia Cordi, biógrafa de Ada María y autora de una novela sobre su vida titulada igual que el prólogo de uno de sus libros: Dos palabras. Era muy importante trabajar en un diario tan notorio, en un equipo completamente masculino, tener una columna, recibir un sueldo por ello. Yo tomo algunas de sus palabras en la novela, donde ella lo describe como haber llegado al lugar en el que deseaba estar . Trabajar allí le dio en su momento mucha difusión a su obra y mucho prestigio . Durante 14 años, La Prensa le encomendó cientos de columnas semanales en las que pudo desplegar una prosa cargada de bellas metáforas que se materializaban en historias sobre personajes históricos nacionales, ficciones y, más tarde, en impresiones de sus viajes a distintos puntos de nuestro país que el propio diario le encargaba. A cada uno de esos viajes la acompaño Mary Kenny, una maestra de origen irlandés con quien convivía desde que dejó la casa familiar.
