Dame Alice Ellen Terry 1847 - 1928 was a leading English actress of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Terry signs her name and dates it October 1907. Underneath, she's written: 'Can't remember a line to quote from The Winter's Tale!!' (She had triumphed as Hermione in Beerbohm Tree's production at His Majesty's, Haymarket the previous year). Instead, she offers a suitable quote from The Merry Wives of Windsor: 'Heaven give you many many merry days.' Terry had returned from a successful US tour in May 1907 during which she'd married a young American actor, James Carew. She took some time off after that to work on her autobiography. Various sizes. Generally, in average to good condition. Tape marks to some edges. Mounting residue to some rears and general usage marks. Ref 19259. Signed by Author(s).
