Stapled wraps. Condition: Very Good+. Illustrated by Ted White (illustrator). Limited Edition; 1st Printing. B&W Illustrations; This edition is limited to 200 numbered copies - this is copy number 87. This is an oversized booklet with self covers and a side stapled spine. This is the First Separate (Stand-Alone) Edition (following publication in the Eggplant - a fanzine of the 1950's) . The booklet is in Very Good to Near Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. There is some light bumping and wear to the spine ends and corners of the front book cover. The top front edge of the booklet cover has a couple of light bumps, and there is toning to all edges of the front and rear covers. The front cover page is an off white / light tan color. The rest of the text pages are an off-green paper. There is an ink stamped date on the bottom edge of the title page (the second page of the booklet) " Dec. 10, 1972". The text pages are all generally clean and bright, though there is toning to the top, bottom and foredges of most of the pages. This short story contains a multitude of nuances - first, it's a Wizard of OZ pastiche, but it's also a running gag in the SF Zine world (starting in 1953, several known authors would include letters, short Stories, comments and other little tidbits under this pseudonym as an inside long-running thing, with a special focus on parody) , the name Carl Brandon was also used as a way to try to include African American authors to the insular world of SF/ F. In 1958 the hoax came to light, the result being disappointment that it wasn't an actual African American. On the good side, Carl Brandon became the impetus for a society "to increase racial and ethnic diversity in the production of and audience for speculative fiction" called the Carl Brandon Society. (introducing Carl Brandon society, 2016).
