Nach der Befreiung Luxemburgs im September 1944 arbeitete sie weiterhin im Exil-Außenministerium, bevor sie 1945 nach Luxemburg zog. Mary Elvinger gehört zu den Initiatoren des American Women's Club of Luxembourg. Nach dem Tode ihres Mannes 1967 unterrichtete sie zunächst in Formosa (heute Taiwan), später Franzsisch an der neu gegründeten American School in Luxemburg.
