Norris Embry (14 gennaio 1921 ? 17 febbraio 1981) ha studiato all'Art Institute di Chicago e nel dopoguerra frequentò l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Durante gli anni fiorentini Embry fu particolarmente influenza dalla pittura espressionista di Oskar Kokoschka, che negli stessi anni stava soggiornando anche lui a Firenze, dove nel 1948 dupinse Il Duomo. Embry tenne la sua prima mostra personale in Europa presso l'Atelier Heinz Trökes di Berlino nel 1950. Dopo aver soggiornati in diversi, Italia, Francia, Germania, Spagna, Inghilterra e Svezia, nel 1960 torna negli stati Uniti e si stabilisce definitivamente a Baltimora, dove fu curato, allo Shepphard Pratt Institute, per i gravi attacchi di malattia mentale di cui soffì per gran parte della sua vita,Sue opere si trovano in diversi musei americani, quali il Baltimore Museum of Art; l'Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C.; il Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, NY; il Solomon R.
