Kunststipendium und besuchte das Atelier des von Picasso beeinflussten Edouard Pignon in Paris. Nach der Rückkehr ins Tessin 1949 arbeitete E. 1956-77 als Innendekorateur und 1976-91 als Bühnenbildner beim Fernsehen der ital. Schweiz. 1966 nahm er seine Malerei wieder auf, ab 1968 stellte er wieder regelmässig aus. Er war ein experimentierfreudiger Künstler mit einem grossen Werk, das sich oft zyklusartig weiterentwickelte und in dem die Gegenwart, die in ihren problemat. Aspekten dargestellt wird, ständig spürbar ist. Von der informellen Malerei (1968) kam E. über die Erfahrung mit Pop-Art (1970-71) und Konzeptkunst (1973-77) zu einer Gestenmalerei von grosser expressiver Kraft» (HLS).
