Add to basketPaperback. Condition: Good. Step right up, art aficionados and casual browsers alike! Presenting *Chagall* by Emily Genauer?a literary potpourri from 1955 that promises to whisk you into the kaleidoscopic world of one of the 20th century?s most eccentric painters. If the thought of a book dedicated to art conjures images of somber lectures or curators droning about brushstrokes, fear not! This book is more of a whimsical frolic through Chagall?s mind than a mere catalogue of his works. Who knew the world of fine art could be as entertaining as a cat meme gone viral? Nice little pocket book with lots of images. Its in German, but contains lots of images, some of which are fold out. Probably about 60 pages, it has what appear to be 45 Tafel or images. slight tear to back dustcover removing about an inch chunk, but nothin serious, in otherwise good condition for 1955. Includes what appears to be a recipt for something dated 26 July 1996, maybe for the book? Not a very interesting reciept. In an era when the avant-garde was just starting to become mainstream, Genauer, with her sharp wit and keen eye, takes us on a rollercoaster ride through the fantastical landscapes and dreamlike figures of Chagall?s creations. Picture a world where cows fly over rooftops, fiddlers dance on rooftops, and romance is painted in blues and greens that would make even the most drab London fog blush. It?s as if Chagall whimsically tossed a salad of love, nostalgia, and a dash of existential dread, garnishing it with a sprinkling of the surreal. But wait! What of Genauer herself? Why, she was a critic and historian, not merely an admirer of Chagall?s work. In her hands, the book becomes a paintbrush that colors our understanding of Chagall?s genius, albeit with a few strokes of irony. One might find themselves pondering whether Genauer?s insight could rival that of a particularly insightful parakeet. After all, who needs dry academic prose when you can have lively commentary sprinkled with anecdotes and observations that might just make you giggle? As you turn the pages, expect to unearth delightful nuggets like: Chagall?s knack for making even the most mundane subject matter feel like a trip to a circus?without the ticket price. Intriguing tidbits about his life, including that time he mistook a goat for an artist?s model. (Okay, we may have made that up, but you get the gist.) Fascinating insights into the symbolism behind his works that might just help you impress your friends at the next dinner party. Why Chagall?s painting style could easily double as a visual representation of your last family reunion?chaotic yet charming. And of course, the perennial question: was he simply a mad genius or a genius madman? You decide! As the pages flutter by, you might find yourself oscillating between moments of profound amazement and bouts of snorting laughter?who knew learning about art could inspire such a rollercoaster of emotions? Chagall?s universe, as interpreted by Genauer, is a testament to the beauty of imagination, the absurdity of life, and the sheer joy of seeing the world through an artist?s eyes. Just when you think it couldn?t get any more whimsical, you remember that you?re reading a book sold by Crappy Old Books, a name that perfectly sums up the charmingly chaotic essence of this work. Condition: Good, which is to say it might have a few smudges of age and previous readers? fingerprints, but fear not! Those fingerprints are merely evidence of the book?s adventurous past. The spine is still intact, much like Chagall?s flying couples, and if you squint just right, you could almost see the magic still swirling within these pages. Perhaps they could use a good dusting, but hey, isn?t that just part of the charm of second-hand literature? So, if you?re ready to plunge into a world of art that?s as mesmerizing as a peppermint swirl, pick up *Chagall* today. You?ll not only be adding to your collection of quirky reads, but you might also become the most interesting person at the dinner table?or at the very least, the one who can honestly say they?ve read the quirky musings of Emily Genauer on the whimsical world of Chagall. Your coffee table will thank you, and so will your future self for having made this delightfully eccentric choice.…
