Sie schrieb u.a. für die "Hamburger Nachrichten" und das "Berliner Tagblatt" und war Mitarbeiterin der von Helene Lange herausgegebenen Zeitschrift "Die Frau". Ihre Doppelbiographie Herzog Karl von Württemberg und Franziska von Hohenheim (1876) beruhte größtenteils auf unveröffentlichtem Archivmaterial. Mit ihren von zahlreichen Prominenten besuchten "Montagstee" spielte Emma Simon im gesellschaftlichen Leben Berlins eine herausragende Rolle.
