This is an unusual, and unusually fascinating, memoir that covers the period from the Second World War through the depths of the cold war. It is told from the perspective of a combatant with experience in offensive and defensive operations. When the author was serving in WWII, the U.S. Army still had a Coast Defense mission. Over the years it evolved through anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense, to today's broad air defense mission.
