Cage, Kaprow passò da una fase iniziale di espressionismo astratto a una produzione che, impiegando più materiali, fece uso di varie tecniche, dal collage all'assemblage. Teorico dell'arte pop, dal 1958 è stato anche tra i primi ideatori di happening, environment e performance intese come strutture teatrali non verbali, ambientati in luoghi inusuali, grandi magazzini o parcheggi (Yard, 1961). Tra i suoi scritti: Assemblage environments and happenings (1966), Essays on the Blurring of Art and Life (1993). Tra i suoi film: Routine (1974), Warm-ups (1975) (da treccani.it). Book.
