In Hungary, a series of laws were passed in 1945 and 1946 under the collective title "Legislation protecting victims of fascism". These laws were intended to compensate for restrictions on personal freedom imposed for political reasons and to address the loss of property. However, the absurdity of the situation culminated in a wave of nationalization after the settlement, when the Communist Party took away the businesses and wholesale companies that had been returned in 1945-46 from their owners, based on the economic ideas of the Bolshevik dictatorship.
