This issue of Uj Holgyfutar (New Ladies' Messenger) was banned on account of its satirical cover. Csaba Pakozdy writing on the relationship between judgments of the European Court of Human Rights on censorship and the national law in Hungary [Miskole Journal of International Law, Vol. 3, No. 3, 2006, pp. 73-84] refers to the case: "In November 1991, the Capital Court took a decision in the case of the periodical entitled Uj Holgyfutar in which it prohibited, after the suspension of the publication by the prosecutor general's office, the public publication of the leap number of 1990/1991 of the said periodical with reference to the offense of morals. The illustration of the cover page of the periodical represented the Hungarian Saint Crown in the company of obscene figures what [which] the Capital Court of first instance found offensive to morals.According to the court, the representation of nudity on the cover page.offended morals and 'the taste, prudency and moral sense of those people who bow their head in front of a church, make the sign of the cross in front of a crucifix, and who do this and did this in every social system whether it is a dictatorship or a democracy'."The editor of the magazine, Endre Szkarosi was born in Budapest in 1952. A poet, performer and teacher, he has organized and participated in many experimental activities in the fields of poetry, theatre, video and multimedia. Portfolio of ten woodcuts by the Jewish-Hungarian painter and graphic artist Endre Vadász (19011944) paying tribute to the emigration of Hungarian Jews triggered by the Hungarian anti-Semitic legislation in the 1930s. The series of ten woodcuts starts with an image of a pogrom followed by descriptive scenarios of the Jewish migration ending with the arrival in Palestine. Each woodcut is accompanied by a Biblical quote and descriptive text by the Hungarian writer and translator László Schnabel, printed to transparent tissue paper preceding each woodcut. Text in Hungarian. Wraps with light sunning along edges and two small and one medium chip at edges of back cover. Block with very light age toning and light bumps at corners. Light creasing of title page at lower right corner. Starting at inside back cover. Wraps in overall good, interior in very good condition.

No Binding. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. One sheet signed by the participants and tournament arbitrator. Quarto (11 1/2" x 8") single sheet hand written. The 19th Hungarian Chess Championship was held in Budapest starting on February 23 through March 21, 1964. The contest drew 20 players with the following results. First was captured by Lajos Portisch with a score of 14.5 one point ahead of second place finisher, Laszlo Szabo. Clear third was Levente Lengyel with 13. Janos Flesch finished 4th with 12.5. Fifth and sixth was shared with Gyozo V Forintos and Laszlo Barczay each with 11.5. Karoly Honfi and Istvan Bilek shared seventh and eight with 10.5. Sole ninth was Jozsef Szily at 9.5. Jozsef Pogats, Tenth through twelfth was Gyula Kluger, Istvan Csom and Peter Szilagyi each with a score of 9, followed by Ervin Haag a half point behind. Laszlo Sapi and Josef Hajtun each claimed 8 points. At 6.5 Jeno Kapu and Endre Gasztonyi bought up the tail end with Laszlo Prelovszky (4.5) and Roland Sallay (4) closing out the contest. Condition: Signed by all the participants. Center fold crease, some staining and age toning else very good.
Condition: Good condition. László Endre (January 1, 1895, Abony March 29, 1946) an Nazis, and after Germany occupied Hungary on March 19, 1944, he developed a strong, personal relationship with Adolf Eichmann. On April 9 of that year Endre became undersecretary of state in the Hungarian government led by Dome Sztojay. He held the position until September 5, 1944. During his five months in the government, Endre played a major role in the extermination of his country's Jews. At the end of the war Endre fled Hungary with the withdrawing German troops. He was captured by American soldiers and sent back to Hungary in October 1945. He was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death as a war criminal, and was hanged on March 29, 1946.
