Presented by the Paris Municipal Council to the Mayor of Folkestone. In the original French. Complete in three volumes, this is the very scarce first edition of this atlas devoted to the history of Paris and its transformations over the centuries. Only 400 copies of this work were printed. A presentation copy from the Paris Municipal Council to Mayor of Folkestone, as a token of gratitude to the welcome given to representatives of Paris who visited Folkestone in 1877. With a presentation leaf tipped in to the title page of the text volume, signed to the tail by the President of the Municipal Council. With one volume devoted to text and two to plates, these volumes offer facsimile reproductions of the rarest and most interesting illustrations in the history of Parisian topography. Illustrated with sixty-four heliogravure maps - many double paged - accross the two plate volumes. These sixty-four plates are numbered I to XXXI. Collated, complete. The text volume lacks one leaf, being pages 12-13. With library markings to front board tails and back strips, and with the bookplate of the Westminster Public Libraries to each front pastedown. The sheets are loosely inserted into three half morocco publisher's portfolios. In half morocco portfolio bindings, with cloth covered boards. Major rubbing to back strips, with losses to back strip heads and tails, and with joints starting and boards somewhat tenderly held. Front board of Plans I detached but present.
