Cloth. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: very good. (1st Edition). [xvi], 254p. Each summer in the late 19th and early 20th century, watchmaker and inventor Abbott and his guide, Bige Smith, camped, hunted, and fished in the Long Lake area of the Adirondack Mountains, New York. In 1914, Abbott delighted his friends when he included his Christmas greetings, a book about his experiences during the summer entitled The Anxious Seat. For the next 18 years, he continued to send out a new volume to his friends, with the last one published in 1932. Each book cover was printed from a photograph of a unique image of birch bark for which Abbott, and reluctantly Bige, would spend a morning searching. In these Birch Bark books, as the series has been dubbed, Abbott shares his observations on nature and animal life and his adventures in the Adirondacks during the early 20th century. [Engels; Introduction to The Birch Bark Books of Henry Abbott]. Reprint of 19 works published privately 1914-1932. B&w illustrations and photographs. (10-1/4"x7-3/8").
