Present book is author's debut collection of poems considered as the manual of Expressionism. Verses express pain and suffering, life lessons, celebrated humanism and mercy, rejection of war and violence. But emotions expressed in non-traditional literary form, particularly frequent is free verse with denying traditional metre. Peteris Ermanis (1893-1969) was a writer, leader of Latvian expressionist poetry. When asked which verse forms Ermanis represents, his ironic answer was "ERMANISm". And it was true, his poetry cannot be compared with any other writer. He was first in Latvian literature, who used free verse so widely and consistently. Ermanis poetry emerged as a paradoxical synthesis. On the one hand he refused of traditional forms, published quite brave futurist declarations. In his verses is evident tendency of word formation, combining in one word several phrases or verbs. But, on the other hand, first of all Ermanis preached the strict sense - that's why his debut verse collection is named "I preach". With amazing futurist cover design by Latvian artist Alberts Prande (1893-1957). He painted mainly landscapes in a realistic manner. Well-known for his works in the field of book graphics.
